Houston based artist/photographer oliver participates in 3rd  FotoFest®

Show title: Metamorphosis—A City in Change

Show dates:
     For FOTOFEST - March 7 - April 20, 2008
For Metamorphosis @ 230 Westcott NOW SHOWING!

This is oliver's third FotoFest in a participating space - 230 Westcott.

He treats photography as a tool box and not a medium. His roots are traditional black and white photography, but he has studied a wide variety of art. oliver explores the edges and transformations of the photographic medium, which for the art history folks may remind them of Stieglitz and the pictorialists but with a digital tool box and 100 years more art to "consider". A sense of beauty, wonder and preserving an easy to live with body of work is important in all of oliver’s work of the past decade. Go see his large "paintings" (20x30 - 44x66 printed on canvas) done with the modern photographic work flow – camera, computer, printer at oliverart.com – but you should really see the FotoFest exhibition at 230 Westcott.

Oliver say’s, "I am thrilled to again participate in FotoFest, and wish to thank 230 Westcott and FotoFest for the opportunity. China remains a mystery and in addition to the expected wonderful documentary, photojournalistic, landscape and other "traditional photographic" work I hope to see some cutting edge new directions in photography as an artistic medium by Chinese artists. The "Transformations" alternative theme begs for explorations in the artistic as the photographic medium undergoes its own transition with the onslaught of the digital world. The organizer’s of FotoFest, should be commended on their selection of themes."

FotoFest created the first international Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art in the United States. FotoFest is an international non-profit photographic arts and education organization based in Houston, Texas. The FotoFest Biennial and art programs are known as platforms for ideas and discovery, combining museum-quality art with important social and aesthetic issues.
